Since it's going to be a summer without either a new Harry Potter book or a new Harry Potter movie, I thought I'd brighten the day of legions of Harry Potter fans with this collection of websites that specialize in Harry Potter quotes.
What I like about this collection of quotes is that they are organized two ways. First, they are separated into two categories: Funny Quotes and Inspirational Quotes. Then they are organized by book. Unfortunately, only the first four books are represented. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, just as much to stand up to our friends." Albus Dumbledore, from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."
IMDb has a large Memorable Quotes section for each of the Harry Potter movies, along with trivia, trailers, and full cast/crew listings. To find the quotes pages for the other movies, simply search for "Harry Potter" and on each movie page, you'll find a link to Memorable Quotes in the Top Links nav on the left. What's fun about this quote collection is that each of the quotes' characters (such as Dumbledore or Hermione) is linked to the actor's bio page. "Hermione: Now if you two don't mind, I'm going to bed before either of you can come up with another clever idea to get us all killed - or worse, expelled."
Emerson Spartz's Harry Potter fan site is one of the largest and oldest around. The quotes are arranged by character (that's cool) but not sorted by book (bummer!) The following are all attributed to Ron Weasley. "Hearing voices no one else can hear isn't a good sign, even in the wizarding world." "Did I tell you I've invented a broomstick that'll reach Jupiter?" "You need your inner eye tested if you ask me."
The Pensieve is a South African fan site named after a magical stone receptacle that stores memories, that first appeared in the "Goblet of Fire" book. The Potterisms are Wizard Sayings (with their Muggle equivalents) and Quotations. For example, the Wizard saying "Galloping gargoyles!" is equal to the Muggle saying "Goodness gracious!" Or "Never tickle a sleeping dragon" which means "Let sleeping dogs lie." Following the sayings, are a nice collection of quotes, attributed to both the character that said them, and the book they appeared in.
Quote Garden has a page of Harry Potter quotes culled from both the books and the movies. The quotes are attributed to author (either J.K. Rowling or Steve Kloves, the screenwriter), the character, and the book or movie. Quotes from the book also include the name of the chapter they appeared in. "If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals. ~J.K. Rowling, Padfoot Returns, ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', 2000, spoken by the character Sirius Black."
